Food and Culinary Arts
The Source Kitchen provides 2 meals a day, as well as drinks, snacks, a soup wagon and a smoothie bar everyday for the sustenance and enjoyment of our festival-goers. The meals are all prepared vegan, with the occasional option of vegetarian sauces and a meat option (prepared separately and with all due respect to our vegan participants). Breakfast will begin at sunrise, with hot food following an hour after that, and running in a buffet style for 3 hours. Dinner will begin at sunset, and will likewise continue for 3 hours in a buffet style. Coffee, tea and juice will be available all day, as will various snacks. This year we are excited to introduce the Soup Wagon, which will make rounds to the camps and provide hot soup during the middle hours of the day. Another new addition will be a Smoothie Bar, which will be delivering fabulous fruit smoothies and other goodies for a few hours each day beginning at noon.
We shall strive this year to have grown up to 20% of our fruits and vegetables locally and organically by Maui farmers, with our eventual goal being to raise that proportion to 100% by Source 2012. Anyone interested in becoming involved in this gardening project, including those with land that they wish to utilize for an organic garden, have an interest in learning the arts of organic gardening or who already have thriving gardens of their own that wish to donate to the Source Festival should contact Ben Holt at b.boparena@gmail.com, or Jerimiah Lamb at chefsareninjastoo@yahoo.com.
A large part of a smoothly running Kitchen lies in donations and volunteers. We are calling for any donations of fruits and vegetables, as well as certain necessary kitchen utensils that you may have available. A complete list of these items can be viewed below.
Volunteers are also the life’s blood of the Kitchen, as feeding several hundred hungry Sourcers is no mean feat. If you have an interest in lending a hand in the kitchen, if even for one shift, please contact Jerimiah at chefsareninjastoo@yahoo.com.
Donations: We need as many fruits and vegetables and can be humanly given. We also have need of blenders, food processors, cutting boards, knives, large pots and pans, chafing dishes, Sterno, and any other specialty utensils you might have.
"Thanks for joining us this year and we look forward to meeting you at dinner."
Events and Community Projects
SOURCE is committed to contributing to the community year round.
In the last two years we have participated in voter registration drives, reef cleanups, and other engagements to improve the conditions around us. We believe we can leave a place better than we found it. Last year we put in 1000 hours at Camp Keanae painting, laying down rock pathways and patching holes.
We offered free Computer and Art classes to the community at the SOURCE sponsored event: ARTstorm
We also know how to have a good time:

Gardens
SOURCE has a goal of feeding the entire festival from local gardens. We have already planted 3 and will provide many of the fresh organic fruit and vegetables for this years festival.
We support all local organic food. The following is a beta version of a directory for Maui Farmers Markets.

The art committee is dedicated to the collection of art and artists within our immediate and extended community in order to beautify and crystallize SOURCE. The role of the art committee is to coordinate placement and facilitate the connection between visionaries and activists bring us your idea, let us help you link up with people who want to help implement the idea.
This is not a juried art show. You do not need our permission to include your art. However, due to limitations of space, the more involved you are in the building and maintenance of the art areas, the more likely you are to place your art in desired locations. If you have a large footprint, it is necessary to let us know as we will be reserving some of the area for large art installations.
What to know about the space:
1. It may rain. In fact it is likely to rain and it is possible we will experience downpours. (Followed by amazing rainbows and glorious rays of brilliant sunshine). We encourage rainproof art pieces.
2. Watch the videos on youtube.com/sourcemaui to get a sense of the space.
3. Dry space: gymnasium (art needs to be unbreakable), dining hall (dry, well lit, not subject to rambunctiousness), tent (interacted with, enjoyed while dancing)Ideas meet resources:
If you do not have an idea for an art piece we welcome your involvement. Let us know and we will connect you with an artist. Artists need all sort of resources from materials to money to your ideas and involvement.
Limited art grants/ scholarships/ rebates are available upon review of written submission.Contact the art committee to:
*Register your art *Collaborate *Donate *Share an idea *Volunteer *Apply for art grants

Franklin Symposium
Meet the Franklin.
If you had to sum Franklin up in one rhyming phrase, it would probably be described best as "The Innovation of Information Motivation". That, in another word could nicely be: Inspiration.
A Franklin is a gathering, sharing, listening, note-taking, event. It is also a person who participates in such an event. A Franklin can also be a smaller information download, from one person to another, so long as there is a meaningful exchange of information: listening, eager and inspired ears on one end and carefully researched, respectful imparting of real data on the other. To Franklin is to engage in such activities. And the francolin is a nearly flightless bird that lives on certain desert isles in the middle of the Pacific.
One Franklin was responsible for founding the first library, fire station, and signing the Declaration of independence of the United States. Another designs elaborate costumes under a blue-laquered roof.
Think grown up show and tell. Those involved in the group meet with respect for each other and simultaneously recognize the potential of sharing information, projects, andpeople who turn them on, get them excited, and, well, inspired.Thereby, each Franklin gets to present their research or otherwise specialized experiences with the group while still orbiting around a central idea, The focus of everyone's attention is listening. Generally, everyone involved creates a presentation and lovingly shares it with the others.
NEWS:
Franklin Expands to meet Source!!! The Franklins' presence has been requested at Source again this year, and it is pleased atthe invitation. This has called for an expansion, though, as this gatheringwill be considerably larger than other Franklins. One of the themes last year was:
Off-the-Grid Franklin... In this round, instead of many mini-lectures, there were pre-selected "smarty-pants" or "experts" who will be giving longer presentations on the subjects, followed by audience Q and A, and hopefully, a larger discussion among the group as a whole.
The idea for Off-the-Grid specifically is to inform the audience about what they can do to think and act and interact with their surrounding, natural environment in a more conscious and helpful way. It is only once we areaware of the imbalance that we can move into action. (This year we will be holding Off-the-Grid 2.0! If you or anyone you know would be a dazzling speaker, please let us know. It would be greatly appreciated!) Otherwise, stay tuned.. and intrigued!
