Art
The art committee is dedicated to the collection of art and artists within our immediate and extended community in order to beautify and crystallize SOURCE. The role of the art committee is to coordinate placement and facilitate the connection between visionaries and activists. Bring your ideas, find others who want to help us help you link up with people who want to help implement the idea.
We have more to post asap! If you are planning on bringing artwork to SOURCE please contact art@sourcemaui.com so we know to save you space. We cannot guarantee there will be room for your art (paintings included if we don’t hear from you prior to February 12th.

Ya’ll know me and Maui Makers. My resume is mostly software and defense projects with art/animation way back in time. This will be one of the first new projects in the art/maker area for public consumption. Intent is to have it operational by mid-January and have it on display at TEDxMaui Jan 22.
SOURCE Radio Station by Ben, Carey, Trevor, Tobin, Markus, John
This project may be granted further depending on fundraising in the next couple of weeks and remaining art grant budget.
Goooooood Mooooorning BSOS! This year for Source we propose to have an LP FM radio station. We will build a radio booth and public lounge that will be part of Camp Exotica. The soundbooth will be a live action area where different radio personalities, show hosts and DJs can share their talents, all of which will be broadcasted as far as legal limits allow.. Ehem… This will provide radio access to those driving into Keanae, at the park n ride areas, while riding on the shuttle as well as throughout the entire camp. The signal will also be picked up by a local receiver and streamed live on the interweb, sharing our broadcast with the world in real time.
There’s more….This will also be an internet based radio station before and after Source, which we intend to have on the air by January 1st. We are seeking talent ASAP. (See bottom for call to action.)
We will be encouraging people to bring transistor radios to tune in to music, shows, PSA’s and Source announcements.
Foot Print and Camp: We have applied for a camp space that is close to a power source and neither next to either a very loud music camp or a quiet zone. The lounge area will be broadcasting the live shows from within the studio. The vibe will reflect the energetic of the on air personalities. This will sometimes be talk shows and other times energetic music. There may be dancing. Our ideal spot request is at the end of the drive way towards the water – sort of past where the microrave was, but close to the water and facing in to the circle – hoping to draw power from the cabin. Second choice would be almost directly opposite of that across the circle where we can draw power from the Medical Bunker – however – the Camp Exotica would be ideal place to lounge at the edge of the sea!!
SEEKING ON AIR TALENT
BSOS LP FM Radio seeks DJs and on-air shows that, paradoxically, represent the spirit of the Source community by playing what you typically don’t hear everywhere else at Source, in the DJ booths and dance tents.
We are looking for all types of music: unique, thought- provoking, silly, sexy, from lands faraway, etc. We are also seeking shows – like talk shows, psychic networks, dating show, sex talk, walk-in self-help, radio theatre, news or anything clever you can come up with.
We will be also accepting submissions of completed shows for the BSOS website and live streaming podcast that should start later this month.
There are a few protocols that everyone must follow:
Shows can be from 1-2 hours
You must be available to do PSA’s for Source. (We encourage an open studio policy for sharing updates on festival activities.)
You must be able to fill your shift responsibly and respectfully.
If you’re interested in joining our on-air team, please submit a description or sample of your show.
Prerecorded sets are also strongly encouraged and will begin receiving airplay prior to the festival. Audio accepted in mp3 format. Contact us with any questions below:

TOP SECRET: Puppets by Anthony Simmons and Maya Disanto
Anthony received an art grant for Source 3. My diorama of an ahupua’a turned out well and it was a good representation of the old Hawaiian community lay out. For Source Four he did a video collage on dancing that can be seen on his youtube channel. Maya received an art grant previously to face paint at the gate.
Yoda Dome by Scott Provonsha
Scott Provonsha has been a long term SOURCE artist inventing the Vader Dome and generating the SOURCE power grid. His ventures into the interactive world of sound are inspiring. The Yoda Dome Is an Audio Visual Experience using Sound waves Produced By a computer Controlled By an xbox Kinect to form patterns On a Sand Board. A person can enter the dome and take complete control of an audio tone. Raise its pitch change its oscillation- and control the volume by movements of their body. That tone will also be passed threw a 4′x4′ sand box which will form different patterns as the tone changes.
Fine Art Circus Animal Banner Print by Ben Christ
Granted: Cost of printing banner for entrance at Festival, 6′x 2′.
Ben Christ has been a long time SOURCEr, having assisted Andrew Jones and Phaedra with the creation of Phadroid in the early years of SOURCE. His own art has evolved from his mentor’s work in ways that we are lucky to experience. This image was painted digitally from scratch, meaning no other images were “photoshopped” into the work. It is a raw original piece and we look forward to seeing this piece blown up as a fine art entrance piece for the festival.
Bellum OS by Casey Scalf
Using a projector and multiple cameras, people can intuitively navigate content, engage reactive audio & visuals, and do so in a collaborative manner with people next to them, or oceans away – All of this on virtually any surface.
The modes for interaction include sound, touch, motion/gesture, integration with many popular smart phones and touch pads, as well as object detection.
Multiple modes of interaction, combined with synaesthetic experiences in a collaborative sense are key to the rich communication and sharing of ideas.
This will affect people in a positive way by introducing/progressing ways of natural interaction with technology that are absent in the traditional mouse/keyboard paradigm. In essence, freeing people from the norm of mouse and button by taking the material away from “flatland” and into the physical space.
Casey is a photographer, painter, Video Mapper, Vj, graphic designer, and programmer with training both formal and experimental in these areas.
He has created multiple aspects of the whole experience before, but in unconnected form.
Included is a link that shows some of the early testing, it has progressed much more.
The AION by Michael Gaio
The AION EVA project is an interactive art-tech installation designed to allow people to explore archetypal meaning and transpersonal identification in both conceptual and tangible ways. Using special archeo-astrological software in coordination with a light / sound sculpture that is based on fundamental cosmological geometry, AION : EVA is an engaging and stimulating participatory experience into the wonders of the cosmos and psyche. ‘Think outside the box–and FEEL inside the cuboctahedron!’”
The Ticket by Craig Eckert
Craig’s installation is essentially a bed. However, it reveals the essence of our festival in two ways. For over ten years, his installation at Burning Man has had entirely magical and unintended consequences. Further, his piece essentially captures the image we have chosen for the ticket. A bed upon which to dream.

(if you are bringing art and are not listed email)
This is not a juried art show. You do not need our permission to include your art. Let us know if we can help place your art on the grounds so it is in the right place.
What to know about the space:
1. It may rain. In fact it is likely to rain and it is possible we will experience downpours. (Followed by amazing rainbows and glorious rays of brilliant sunshine). We encourage rainproof art pieces.
2. Watch the videos on youtube.com/sourcemaui to get a sense of the space.
3. Dry space: gymnasium (art needs to be unbreakable), dining hall (dry, well lit, not subject to rambunctiousness), tent (interacted with, enjoyed while dancing)
Ideas meet resources:
If you do not have an idea for an art piece we welcome your involvement. Let us know and we will connect you with an artist. Artists need all sort of resources from materials to money to your ideas and involvement.
Limited art grants/ scholarships/ rebates are available upon review of written submission.
